Neuronal damage - recent issues and implications for therapy.

چکیده
The spectrum of structural damage in the brain associated with HIV is now more fully understood. Such changes include inflammatory disorders (such as HIV encephalitis, leukoencephalopathy, and diffuse poliodystrophy), dendritic and synaptic damage, and neuronal loss. However, the relationship between neuronal damage and loss and clinical variables is still not clear. In my laboratory my research group has been addressing three separate areas, which will be the subject of this presentation. (1) The relationship of neuronal damage and loss to various clinical features such as cognitive symptoms, and risk group. (2) The cellular site of production of neurotoxic factors in the HIV-infected brain. (3) Assessing potential neuroprotective strategies using appropriate in-vitro models.

متن کاملReview of mechanisms and recent advances in cancer photo thermal therapy
Abstract. Cancer is a major health problem all over the world. Photo thermal therapy (PTT) is a non-invasive method in cancer treatment. In PTT, the laser light usually in near-infra red region is absorbed and converted to heat in the cancerous tissue. The temperature above 40 ° C in PTT can induce some effects including irreversible damage to proteins, changes in enzyme struc...
متن کاملPhysiological and Pathological Roles for MicroRNAs: Implications for Immunity Complications
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding regulatory RNAs molecules with a size of approximately 22 nucleotides that are implicated in regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional regulatory levels. Inflammatory disorders especially autoimmune diseases (ADs) occur from an abnormal immune response of body against cells of their own specific tissues or multiple organ systems leading to ch...
متن کاملChange of Nurr1 expression in mouse hippocampal CA3 region following excitotoxic neuronal damage
Objective(s): Nuclear receptor-related protein 1 (Nurr1), one of immediate-early genes, is a member of orphan nuclear receptor family. The aim of this study was to investigate the time-dependent change of Nurr1 protein expression in the mouse hippocampal CA3 region following kainic acid (KA)-induced excitotoxic neuronal damage.Materials and Methods:</...
